What’s Needed?
Adult students interested in our adult program should have the following abilities:
-
Read music — The ability to read music is important to ensure the group can progress at the same pace.
-
Instrument proficiency — Students should possess sufficient proficiency on their instrument to play scales and learn improvisation.
-
Treat voice as an instrument — Vocalists should be willing to sing melodies alongside horn players, beyond just vocal standards.
-
A realistic time commitment is crucial — Students are expected to practice outside of class to ensure the combo is prepared for performances—teamwork is key to the success of any group!
If the above mentioned are outside the scope of an interested adult student, we highly recommend private instruction as a way to hone one's skills prior to joining YLJC.
